(LONDON, 5 AUGUST 2012) – The Philippine Embassy and the UP Alumni Associat
ion – UK (UPAA-UK) hosted 11 Filipino student-athletes to breakfast at the chancery on Sunday, 5 August 2012. The athletes topped the “Batang Pinoy” program being run by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), which selects the country’s most promising youth athletes.
The group was in London as scholars in a two-week international summer program at St. Bede’s School in Sussex, under the auspices of the British Council Philippines, MVP Sports Foundation and PSC. The athletes also had the opportunity to watch some of the events of the London 2012 Olympic Games in person.
The ten student-athletes were boxer Roberto Miguel Jalnaiz, triathlete Gabrielle Allen Santiago, taekwondo jin Irene Therese Bermejo, swimmer Ariana Caraos Herranz, judoka Flord Derek Rillera, badminton shuttlers Joella Geva de Vera and John Edgard Reyes, shotputter Garry Santiago, sprinter Mary Anthony Diesto, archer Bianca Cristina Gotuaco, and weightlifter John Kyle Macrohon.
